My name is Rob Ruscher, and I am obsessed with video production. Plain and simple. I am passionate, professional, and skilled. I work hard and continue to grow in this field by reading, doing, and socializing with like minded professionals.

I graduated from IUP with a Bachelors Degree in Communications Media, where I studied for four years while playing hockey. Why is this important? Being an athlete in college and graduating on time taught me dedication, time management, and how to stay motivated, all of which are vital when working in the field of video production.

When I graduated, I moved back to the Washington, DC area and landed an internship with MetaMedia whom taught me so much on set. Lighting, camera movement and gear immediately consumed me. I couldn’t get enough of it and learned as much as I possibly could. I went from intern, to production assistant, to assistant camera, to camera operator, to director of photography. After two years of working there I ventured to a freelance career.

Learning more about the business side of things and meeting many people along the way while also building my skills and knowledge as a director of photography. One company I freelanced for regularly was 522 Productions and they eventually hired me on full time as the Digital Marketing Strategist and a valuable team member on set.

My knowledge of gear, camera systems, and editing continues to grow as I am able to learn from many professionals in the field. I continue to learn new and effective ways to tell the story which makes me a better shooter and more valuable on any production team.

A common question I get is what camera systems have I used or worked with. Here’s a list of those (in order of my expertise):

  • Canon DSLRs
  • Sony EX3/3
  • Sony F3
  • Sony FS700
  • Canon C300
  • Panasonic HVX 200 (and similar)
  • Panasonic AF100

The simple fact is that every project is different. Some jobs require me to bring a ton of gear (both of my own and rented), an assistant, or just myself. The quickest and easiest way to see what I would charge for your project it to contact me. I am available for hire as director of photography, camera operator, assistant camera and a few other crew postions.
